The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls. Elizabeth Cady Stanton
The truth within you.
You are not selfish if you listen to that truth. Selfish happens, not always a good way to go, not a goal.
But; if you are acting in your highest and best good, if you are convinced you are in grace, that is not up to others. That is your dharma, your journey, your only choice.
It’s easy to make fun of those who try to “find themselves,” as if listening to your soul is a very “California” thing. If you listen to your own truth, be prepared for that misunderstanding, for some ridicule, for the accusation that you are “doing whatever the heck you want.” The accusations are not your problem.
You get one shot, that we know of, in your body, one chance to do what you came here to do. To choose to find your truth, to choose to find your mission is the healthiest and most sane thing you can do, not an act of craziness.
It is not selfish to release your beast.
From the first breath you take in the morning on, everything you do is a choice. You choose to live, so why stop there? Choose to live a full life that engages you. It can be trite to say “I deserve happiness,” (you do) it implies rolling in a field of daisies with sunshine and lollipops and rejecting your obligations. Would that make you happy? Happiness might include your obligations or finding completion in them before moving on.
It’s possible, for you, that happiness means having a sense of purpose, feeling like you make a difference, knowing that you are on a mission. You might be fulfilled by helping others, by making a bunch of cash, by painting after your day job. That’s your choice.
There’s nothing wrong with choosing to live a life that engages you. Nothing wrong with deciding that tolerating is not the same as living.
Have you listened to that voice that speaks when no one else is in the room?
What is the truth that is in you?

What an appropriate piece to start my day. Thanks, Beast!
De nada Brenda!
I have read and re-read this piece of writing and I find “more” in it everytime I do…so well written, so genuine and so valuable for all of us to remember, not just every day, but every living moment…not just the moments that take our breath away but all the in between moments when we have to concentrate just to breathe our way through…Thank you for sharing your insights…
Thanks M.E.!
Not to put a damper on anything, but what if you don’t know how to find the truth in yourself?
I sit here sobbing because i feel so jaded (like now) , that “truth” is only relative to the situation one is in at the time.
There are so many facets to life – yours, mine , everyone’s, – that it seems truth is bent to fit the moment, the situation, the immediate need of where we’re at to allow us to make it through.
HMMMM
Pause for thought…
I’m not usually this “negative” or at least, I try not to be, but sometimes playing the advocate of the Devil can allow a spin on the “normal” way of thinking
I say push outside the box of normality. Push your limits of thinking and give a chance to view this from another another angle.
Releasing the beast…. is that anything like the Greek gods releasing the Krakon? What sacrifice needs to be made to allow this to happen and feed that beast?
Is it what society tells us is right?
Is it religion?
Is it the constraints of “normy” thinking? I try very hard to not fall into this category because it does not allow Universal input. It’s much to wrote.
ok.. end of advocating the devil
In a book by Paulo Coelho called “The Alchemist,” many truths about life are presented.
A couple of ideals I will share with you
“People are afraid to pursue their most important dreams, because they feel that they don’t deserve them, or that they’ll be unable to achieve them.”
WOW!!!
“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”
We are all after our own Personal Legend. Some of us will achieve it; some already have; and some will spend the rest of their lives searching.
Here is what I know about me. I want to feel good, have fun and be happy – EVERY DAY. Three very simple life goals. That is MY personal legend. Besides.. just existing in life is far more brutal than LIVING , so why wait?
Thx
Well thank you. I love the Alchemist, one of the most influential books I’ve read Melissa. I think one of the ways to find the real you is through creativity and by God, you can write! I hope you keep doing so! Thanks for sharing!
