It’s the verb, not the noun. If you are feeling creative, like you need to let your Beast come out and play, do it!
Don’t wait until you learn a new instrument, take a few classes or get someone’s approval. How you express yourself, how you let your feelings out is not as important as letting them out.
I was telling you, the other day, that learning a new skill takes time and patience, it takes deliberate practice. That might be viewed as discouraging. What if you don’t have time and patience? That’s ok, don’t miss the point, you are creative, you have potential; use it! We need your unique point of view, there’s enough people who live by “company policy”, “proper procedure” and “protocol”. Robots are boring, artists are not.
Bring creativity to your day job, to your parenting, to the next Home Owners’ Association Meeting. Creativity isn’t confined to being an artist, at least not how we define it. Creativity is about seeing life through fresh eyes, about reigniting your curiosity, about bring your passion and energy to the life you are creating.
That’s right, you are creating a life, the greatest artwork of all. I’ve got to let you in on a little secret. Middle Aged Crazy isn’t some plot to get you to buy a paint by numbers set or an accordion. I don’t care of you take acting classes, write a blog or learn to whistle while eating crackers. No, my goal is to encourage our generation to turn off the TV, get out of robot mode and begin to color outside the lines again.
Your life is a gift, you are a creation. By getting out of bed every day, you are creating, it’s in your DNA. If you add Passion and Meaning to your day, you are an artist. You don’t have to cut off an ear, buy a beret or stop bathing. Starving is not required, but starving your soul is forbidden.
Beginning now, RIGHT NOW, you have permission to see the world as the Creative Genius you are.
I’m going to go work on that crackers and whistling thing… MMMM, crackers…
